At long last, Margaret Thatcher is cool again. A few years ago, who would have ever thought she would have won an Oscar? Of course, it was Meryl Streep who received the award, but the larger point stands: The Iron Lady is enjoying newfound appreciation. That’s likely to continue with the publication of Reagan and Thatcher: The Difficult Relationship, by Richard Aldous. The book offers a new look at the political alliance that defined the 1980s and helped win the Cold War. While much has been made of Reagan and Thatcher’s agreements, Aldous argues that not enough has been made of their disagreements. It turns out, the two leaders often saw things differently….
